MEDICAL AND DENTAL STUDENTS
The goals of the BU GCRC Clinical Investigator Development Program (CIDP) are to utilize the substantial resources of the BU GCRC and of BUMC to identify academically outstanding and motivated students, residents, and fellows; link them with dedicated research mentors; and to provide the institutional, educational, and financial support necessary to develop careers in patient-oriented research. The CIDP will utilize multiple strategies to not only identify potential trainees, but also foster greater understanding and interest in clinical investigation. These strategies will differ for each level of training. Working with the Office of Student Affairs, the GCRC is working to increase the student’s exposure to ongoing clinical research at BUMC. GCRC investigators, most of whom are involved in student lecture courses in the first two years of medical school, have been encouraged to promote their own research and make clear their availability to students for informal discussions of research training. Students will be encouraged to consider taking a planned new clinical research elective on the GCRC as well as devoting blocks of time to research projects, including up to an extra year of training. Additionally, a number of clinical student electives, will specifically introduce students to the ongoing GCRC research being conducted in these disciplines. Finally, the Clinical Research Catalog, will allow students to learn of the available research opportunities and provide easy access to potential mentors. Information on the studies being conducted in the GCRC, can be obtained from the website on this page.
