GCRC ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Message from the Chairman:

I am proud to serve as Chairman of the Advisory Committee.  The General Clinical Research Center Advisory Committee (GAC) consists of members appointed by the Principal Investigator of the grant. The committee is responsible to him and consists of a cross-section of faculty who are familiar with the broad elements of GCRC research activities and are nationally recognized clinical investigators; all are faculty members of the schools of medicine, public health, or dentistry.  Meeting six times each year, the GAC supervises and reviews operations, and evaluates projects for GCRC use.  In particular, we categorize and review protocols, and receive reports from the Program Director, Associate Directors, Administrative Director, Nurse Manager, Research Subject Advocate, and the Director of the Office of Clinical Research.

On average, we review 40-50 protocols annually, award 1-3 CReFF projects annually, and review the scientific results of 3-4 medical student research projects. As an example of the growth of clinical research done in the GCRC, there were 4,294 visits in 2000, and over 9,000 visits in 2007.

Working with NCRR, the GAC provides direction and assistance to the Program Directors and staff so they can continue to expand the activities of the GCRC, and to provide excellent service to our faculty.
