MESSAGE FROM THE ASSOCIATE PROVOST FOR TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH For more than four decades, the General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) has provided researchers on the medical campus with the proper tools and a controlled clinical environment to carry out innovative research. As part of the new Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) program, the GCRC will continue in its mission. Major programs which previously have benefited from the GCRC included those dealing with heart and vascular diseases, men's health, sickle cell disease, obesity, asthma, geriatrics, autism, addiction, amyloidosis, osteoarthritis, and diabetes. The Medical Campus GCRC is a rich resource for clinical researchers. Some of the most recent innovative, multidisciplinary research at the GCRC shows a wide variety of studies aimed at children and adults. These include the testing of new medicines in the fight against HIV/AIDS and investigating drugs to prevent Alzheimer’s disease, vasculitis, and periodontal disease. As Associate Provost for Translational Research and Principal Investigator of the CTSA program, I am proud to offer this as one of the many new services that will soon become available to our faculty and staff.
