CLINICAL RESEARCH FEASIBILITY FUND (CReFF) PROGRAM
The purpose of the CReFF Program is to support clinical research by junior faculty members through funding of pilot studies utilizing the General Clinical Research Center (GCRC). Applicants are expected to explore currently unfunded avenues of clinical research with the goal of acquiring sufficient new information to successfully apply for extramural grant support within one year. Applicants must have a full time faculty appointment at the Boston University School of Medicine, Dentistry, or Public Health with a junior faculty rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor. CReFF grant applications will be evaluated and ranked for funding priority by a Research Review Committee, consisting of members of the GCRC Advisory Committee. Prospects that the project will advance the applicant’s career by leading to submission of a fundable, extramural clinical research grant application will be the predominant will be the criterion for review of these applications. The application deadline is dependent upon funding and will be set each year. A general announcement with website and forms are sent to faculty yearly. CReFF Grants are awarded for one year. The award maximum is $20,000. Funds my be used for laboratory supplies, drug costs, consultant fees, small equipment (under $5000), salary support for a clinical study coordinator, and other expenses including subject recruitment costs, but may not be used for travel or to provide salary for the applicant or laboratory technicians. Awards are not transferable to any other institution. By accepting these funds, the applicant agrees to present the preliminary findings of the research to the GCRC Advisory Committee within four months of the end of the grant, and to submit a final report within one year after the end of the grant, and to submit a final report within one year after the end of the grant indicating any publications, grant applications and grant that resulted from the project.
